Brief History and Location:
Regional Institute of Education is a constituent unit of National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and it was set up in the year 1963 (then it was named as Regional College of Education) It looks after the educational interests of Northern Region comprising the states of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh, the National Capital Territory of Delhi and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
Ajmer in well-known all over India as a historical and religious place of pilgrimage as well as an educational centre. It owes this reputation partly to the Regional Institute of Education (RIE). The Institute is situated six km. away from the Ajmer Railway Station in midst of idyllic surroundings with the historic Anasagar Lake in front and the Aravali hills all around. It is almost equidistant from the world famous Dargah of Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti beyond the lake and the holy place of Hindu Pilgrimage, Pushkar, at the back.
This Institute with its specious buildings, playgrounds, gardens, lawns and farm is spread over 110 acres. It is affiliated to the M.D.S. University, Ajmer and its courses are recognized by the NCTE, New Delhi. The management committee, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of the affiliating university performs the advisory role on matters of academic interest.
Role Perception:
Following roles have been perceived for the Institute:
As an advanced and pioneering institute of education. It tries out innovative pre-service courses and promotes research, develops instructional material and imparts training to in-service teachers in various school disciplines and the methods of transacting them.
As regional resource institution on school education and teacher education it offers as support system to the clientele states and documents and disseminates information concerning improved methods, practices and patterns of education to the state level agencies.
As a regional center of the NCERT, it advises the state departments of education on policies and programmes related to all aspects of school education and extends help in the implementation of national level policies and programmes originating from the MHRD and the NCERT headquarters.
The Institute aims primarily at capacity building of the state and district level teacher education institutes like SCERTs, DIETs, IASEs, CTEs etc. by undertaking specific projects in the areas of Research, Development and Training.
Programmes:
The programmes of RIE, Ajmer could be classified in the following areas:
1. Courses:
The Institute offers the following four courses:
(a)Four year integrated B.Sc. B.Ed. Course with an intake capacity of 80 students.
(b)Two year innovative B.Ed. (Secondary) course with an intake capacity of 80 students; 40 in Science and 40 in Social Science & languages.
(c)One year M.Ed. with special emphasis on elementary education with an intake capacity of 20 students.
(d)Post Graduate Diploma in Guidance and Counselling (PGDGC) with an aim to prepare Guidance Counsellors for schools, State Bureaus of Guidance Clinics. The course has an intake capacity of 25 students.
II. Research:
The Institute conducts research in the areas of curriculum development, teacher education, science education, environmental education and other areas of national and regional interest, Sometimes it leads to Ph.D degree to the researcher.
III. Extension Services:
Besides preparing teachers through pre-service courses, the Institute performs the following extension activities to make teaching and learning effective in schools.
(a)Organising need – based orientation courses for strengthening the faculties of DIETs, CTEs, and IASEs on methods, content, instructional aids, school management, curriculum development, textbook writing etc.
(b)Working as a monitoring and coordinating agency for the effective implementation of national schemes like DPEP, Improvement of Science and Mathematics Education, Non-formal Education, Environmental Education, Population Education, Vocationalization of Education and other centrally sponsored schemes.
(c)Undertaking research projects in areas like Value Education, innovative practices. Environmental Education, Population Education, field testing of NCERT text books and offering feedback and providing consultancy to Boards of Education.
(d) Developing approaches, strategies and guidelines and teaching, preparing instructional material, training designs and packages in specific school subjects.
(e) Holding meetings and conferences with the state level educational authorities with a view to finding out obstacles in the way of improving the quality of school education and the ways of overcoming them.

i want to admit in course b.sc b.ed what is the marrit.i have 74%marks in intermedeat.so you please send the information of your university.

i am sanjay from delhi university. i have applied in RIE ajmer for the post of lecturer (ad hoc)in pedagogy of social scinece(education). i didnot get any further information from your side till date. kindly inform me about said. thanks
